Aviation biofuel, often known as bio-jet fuel or bio-aviation fuel (BAF), is a sustainable aviation fuel that is used to power aircraft (SAF). Aviation biofuel could help decarbonize medium- and long-haul air travel, which is the source of the majority of emissions, as well as extend the life of older aircraft by lowering their carbon footprint. Biofuels are plant- or waste-derived fuels that, depending on the type of biomass used, might reduce CO2 emissions by 20–98% when compared to traditional jet fuel. The aviation industry's commitment to decreasing GHG emissions, combined with rising oil prices, has spurred a demand for renewable and cheap energy sources tailored to this industry's unique requirements. Because jet engines cannot be easily electrified, biofuels are the only practical alternative.
