Regulatory bodies establish sustainability criteria, ensuring that biofuels contribute to greenhouse gas reduction without harming biodiversity or food security. Certification programs such as the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in the U.S. and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) in the EU set compliance benchmarks for producers. Emerging policies are also integrating carbon capture technologies and advanced biofuels into long-term energy strategies. While global biofuel policies evolve, balancing economic feasibility, environmental sustainability, and energy security remains a key challenge for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
