Title : Green management of enterprises as a response to climate change
Abstract:
Since industrialization was promoted in the 18th century, the enterprises focused on maximization of profit without considering nature being polluted and/or destructed in the process of resource extraction, production and distribution of goods and services. This is termed traditional management that has resulted in the enterprises to be a major contributor to environmental problems, in particular to climate change. However, the enterprises are in a paradox in that they are contributors to and victims of environmental problems. In order to solve the paradox, enterprises are inevitable to shift their management system from traditional to new one termed green management focusing on maximization of profit with imposing less ecological cost to nature for their survival through contributing to the reduction of environmental pollutions.
In such a context, this paper will present Green Management of Enterprises as a Response to Climate Change, covering the following themes.
1. Why should enterprise management be green? This theme will explain the mutual relationship between nature and the activity of enterprises, what has happened to nature by the activity of enterprises in relation to low eco-efficiency and high ecological cost, and the mechanism of enterprises as a contributor to and the victim of environmental problems.
2. What is green management? This theme will explain the concept of green management, the necessity of green management for the sustainability of enterprises themselves, the promotion strategy of green management, the roles of government for vitalization of green management, and the benefits enterprise can get from green management.
3. What indicators should be used for evaluating green management? This theme will explain the definition of indicator, the roles of indicator in relation to green management, and green management indicators for measuring and assessing the state and level of green management.
